May 2015

Dear Friends,

We recently completed our admission of ten new children for the year: five boys and five girls. We target younger children for admission who are around the age of eight. We find the boys on the streets; we admit the girls directly from the slums. Girls from disadvantaged backgrounds are often put to work as domestic “house girls” and do not frequent the streets in the same way as the boys. House girls are assigned the work of gathering firewood, drawing water, cleaning house and assisting in the care of infants. Such girls are not enrolled in schools and will likely marry in their teens. In contrast, the girls admitted to our program will receive an education and have many more opportunities in life.

Thank you for your on-going support of the St. John Bosco Children’s Centre in its important work with disadvantaged children in Kenya.

Yours in Christ,

Russ Brine
